ROYAL AIR FORCE

I joined the RAF in 1949 on 18months National Service, later extended to 2 years.
My first port of call was Manchester, where I was kitted out., Then given a posting for sqare bashing. at Bridgenorth in Shropshire, After this I was selected to attend a 9 months course as a Flight mechanic at St. Athan in S, Wales. From there I received a permanent posting to Transport Command, Topcliffe, near Thirsk in N. Yorkshire. I also had a very short stint at Driffield, also in Yorkshire.
